Chalk Walk Art Festival

Chalk Walk 2010 was a HUGE success! Click here to view some of the photos from the 2010 Chalk Walk.

Thank you to all the businesses, individuals, cultural organizations and artists that helped to make Chalk Walk a huge success! Chalk Walk brought over 5,000 individuals together to celebrate arts and culture and to be a part of the creation of art.

In conjunction with Chalk Walk, the Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts opened a temporary gallery. All artists who signed up to participate in Chalk Walk were invited to display and sell some of their artwork in an available retail space in Hyde Park Village.  The TBBCA and the Chalk Walk committee thought that the Chalk Walk Artist Gallery would be a great way for artists in our community to make additional money and show how art can activate available retail space. Outside the box thinking showed the community that when you activate a store front with art, people will come in!

The TBBCA also worked with organizations such as Creative Clay, MacDonald Training Center, Pyramid and VSA Florida to make sure that the festival was accessible for all the enjoy. We are very proud to have partnered with these four local organizations to encourage individuals with disabilities to pursue their artistic talents and to participate in Chalk Walk.

The three-day art festival included live music from 10th Concession, Chris McCarty, Blake High School Jazz Combo, Have Gun, Will Travel and Grey Beard. In addition to the outstanding line up of musical talent, Chalk Walk had activities for kids including chalk art, face painting and a bounce house provided by Tampa Bay Parenting Magazine. Cultural organizations and area businesses were invited to set up at the festival Friday through Sunday for the open air market and area businesses offered special discounts and promotions for Mother's Day. Chalk Walk had something for everyone to enjoy!

Over 45 artists came out to participate in Chalk Walk and compete for cash prizes. On Sunday, May 9th judges Kendra Frorup- Assistant Professor in sculpture at the University of Tampa , Joanne Milani - Curator for Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Maida Millan - Director of the West Tampa Center for the Arts and Kim Ross - Senior Vice President, Product Leader, in Nielsen’s Engineering & Technology, walked around the village to look at the amazing chalk and plein air art and select the winners of the 2010 Chalk Walk.
